Halfway through the year and I’m still looking forward to my first round without battling the wind! Maybe July will be kinder in that respect.

There’s a lot been going on in front of, and behind, the scenes so I just wanted to update you with the latest news.

St Andrews Victory

For only the fourth time this century our men’s team beat St Andrews after our 5½-4½ victory on the New Course. Overall match result 13½-6½. Some photos to mark the occasion!

Several happy teammates and the Club Captain

It’s great to see members enjoying a victory on behalf of the club so many congratulations to all involved.

There are still a large number of competitions to be enjoyed this year so check out the newsletter weekly so you don’t miss anything important!

Around the clubhouse

Work continues around the clubhouse to improve facilities for members. With the men’s locker rooms completed, and two new showers installed, it’s the ladies turn to enjoy some improvements in their locker room where some lockers will be removed to allow more room, particularly for a seating area and clothing hooks.

After this we have two major items to consider – a new heating system and the refurbishment of the remainder of the men’s showers and toilets.

Finance

From a finance view we’ve seen a healthy increase in income so far in 2026 and that gives us confidence in the future. Once we have paid back the member loans we received for the locker room (next February) we will be in a much better position to start planning which job is next. Costs are being sought for the heating system so that we’re in a good position to make decisions.

Membership

Our membership numbers continue to increase, albeit at a slower pace than in the spring. We currently have 12 ladies at various stages of their first steps into golf and are hopeful this will result in some new memberships to come.

On the men’s side, it would be good to see more long standing and new members making use of the WhatsApp group to offer up spaces, or ask for spaces on the tea sheet.

Thanks

Finally, I want to thank everyone who works so hard to keep the club running smoothly including the club council, the golf committee, the ladies committee and all the summer league helpers and links reps who often go unpraised. Not forgetting Linda and Sandy for helping to generate such a positive vibe around the clubhouse. Here’s to the next 6 months.
