Scottish Golf and the R&A are promoting 9 hole golf, and have organised a 9 hole championship which will culminate in the winning pairs competing in the final over 9 holes of the Championship Course at Carnoustie immediately before the Open.
Our qualifying event is on Sunday 29 April over the new 9 hole layout of Ashludie which will come into play next year. This is a great chance to try out the new layout and experience a 9 hole competition. The nine holes will be holes 1 – 7, and then 14 and 13. (For those who wish to play 18 holes on that day the second nine is 8 – 12, and then 15 – 18.) Special scorecards with stroke index will be available for the nine holes, and signage will ensure that players do not get lost!
Handicaps will be based on nine holes, and calculated by the club’s software system. All players must have a valid handicap.
The event is contested in pairs, which may be male, female or mixed but only include a maximum of 1 junior under 18. Pairs must be nominated before play and if playing in the same group must not give advice or mark each other’s card. The event is a 9 hole Stableford where the team score is calculated from the combined Stableford points of both players. Ready golf is encouraged.
The National Final for qualifiers will be held at Milnathort on Friday 15 June, and the leading 4 pairs from the National Final will advance to the 9 hole Grand Final at Carnoustie on Saturday 14 July.
Sign up sheets have been added to the noticeboards.
Players are requested to book their own starting time on Ashludie for any time of the day on Sunday 29 April. A special time has been set aside by Monifieth Links from 1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on that date to give priority to this competition (all clubs at Monifieth are participating on the same day) but you can play at any time. Since 2 players in the same team cannot mark each other’s card, it is expected that bookings would be 4 ball games (i.e. 2 pairs). However if you don’t have another pair to play with, the Links staff can pair you up.
To book a time, just call the starters box on 01382 532767 but remember to also add your entry to the notice board in the club.
